Anytime Fitness - Biggest Loser Challenge - Week 5 Update

Week 5 has been an interesting week to say the least.  I have stayed very busy (earning activity points, lol).

It seems like I had something to do almost every day.  I had a baskeball game, a talent show and a 2nd Grade Musical to go to for my nieces.  I LOVE every minute of it!  I don't have any children of my own, so I try to make every event that I can for my nieces/nephews.  I always try to show them I support them no matter what they are doing.

So obviously you are thinking that if I had stuff to do every night, how did I handle my eating, workouts, etc.  Well I kept strict to my workout schedule and although I did get home late some nights, I still made smarter choices.  On the nights I knew I was going to get home late, I packed some snacks that were better options than going through a drive-thru starving.  Which ultimately that is what everything I am doing teaches you - to make smarter choices.

I do have to admit that one night I did go thru a drive-thru starving though.  With me not likeing too many fast food places anymore, I chose Taco Bell.  I get the plain crunchy tacos, which are 4 points each on Weight Watchers.

Not that I feel as though I have to defend my choices, but that is not so bad if you think about it.  2 of them do the trick for my hour drive home and I am not getting home eating at 10pm and then immediately going to bed.

Weight Watchers teaches you that you can have what you want, without feeling deprived, but you just have to account for it.  You have to understand the program to understand why people are still eating normal things like Taco Bell and should not be judged for it.

Weight Watchers gives you a daily Points Allowance based on your height, weight, gender and age.  Every single person will have a different Points Allowance and it changes as you gain or lose weight.  They also give you a weekly Points Allowance of 49 points.  Everyone gets the same 49.  They are points to be used as you wish.  If you go over your daily budget, you can use some of those to account for everything.  If you want a treat, you use those points for something special.  At the end of the week your 49 points are gone whether you used them up or not.  Your points do not carry over from day to day or week to week.  Your weekly points tracker resets on the day you weigh in.

As far as the gym goes, I am still going in the morning.  I am not sure if I have ever mentioned it, but I LOVE Strength Training.  I loathe cardio.  haha  Walking on the treadmill is pretty boring to me.  I can do the eliptical for a few minutes, but my knees hurt on that thing.   The bike at the gym is pretty popular, you have to claim your spot on that thing quick.

The reason why I love strength training so much is I want muscles...you know to see the definition of them.  I know I am getting stronger every day because a year ago I could not pull myself up into my husband's Jeep that has a lift kit on it.  This past weekend I was in and out of that thing like a pro...without a step ladder!  Just me - using my new found upper body strength.

Going in the mornings is pretty interesting.  I see some of the same people and there is one couple I see that works out at the same time.  They have sessions with one of the Personal Trainers, David.  He seems very straight forward, almost military-ish.  He also seems very motivating.  He has always been very friendly when I see him.  Although I am sure the guy training with him thinks he is killing him...LOL.

The next gym weigh in is on Monday, March 5, 2012.  This weigh in marks the half-way point of the Challenge.

At this point I don't really think I have a chance of winning it, but I like to finish what I start.  One person has already lost 7+% of her body weight.  There is no telling what the numbers will look like for this weigh in at the gym.

My weigh in with Weight Watchers this week was a 0.6 lb gain.  I am not even going to be mad at this because it is not detrimental to my success.  This was me getting off routine really.  I actually lost this week, but on the day of my weigh in, I did not go on my lunch break like I normally do.  I waited until the 5:30 meeting time.  Actually I almost didn't even go to the meeting.

At the end of the day, you will most likely always weigh more.  Your body weight can fluxuate 1-5 lbs a day.  I drink tons of water every day and depending on how much salt I eat depends on how much fluid I retain.  The 0.6 lb gain for this week was as Judy at the center said "Your lunch showed up".  This cracked me up because she is right.  I had beef & broccoli (chinese) for lunch and OMG - we all know Chinese food is jam packed full of sodium!

What can I say...that is what I was in the mood for.  No regrets.  I am armed and ready this week with our Weight Watchers class "Magical Traveling Tracking Journal".  It is basically getting back to old school pen and paper basics of tracking.  This journal has a 99.9% success rate for people who take it and track in it losing weight that week.  Jeeze...talk about pressure!  LOL

I am going into week 6 with the quote from the meeting this week, which is pretty cool:

"Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome."  ~ Booker T. Washington

  1. " I am not even going to be mad at this because it is not detrimental to my success."

And you should not be mad because look at all the changes you are making. Not just in your body but in your life as well!
